Claudia Walker was delighted to pick up the win in the Second City Derby against Aston Villa.

The striker’s fifth goal in five games was enough to secure three points in the first ever league meeting between the two sides.

Walker was pleased to secure the important win in a tightly contested game.

She explained: “At the start of the season, it was one that all the girls wanted to play, so it was good to get the job done and pick up the win.

“This is a game that we would’ve loved to have our fans there and we’ve missed our fans, the win is important because they can’t be here to support us.”

Continuing in her rich vein of form, Walker expressed her desire to continue adding to her tally and the support that Carla Ward has given her since her arrival.

She said: “Each game I want to keep on building so that’s the aim, I want to keep on getting goals and help the team win games.

“Carla has installed a lot of self-belief in me, she tells me to back myself and that means she’s backing me as well.

“She has given the whole team a huge lift since she arrived, and we are enjoying our football and progressing.”

The result saw Blues pick up another clean sheet and having only named two substitutes due to injuries, the team performance was outstanding.

“It shows the quality of players that we have at the club,” said Walker. “Everyone is on the same page and everyone has got each other’s back.

“Going into the game the odds are probably against us but that makes us more motivated and driven to get a result from the game.

“Carla and the staff all make sure that we are being positive in every game that we play.”

On the result, Head Coach Ward added: “We were strong, everyone knows what they want to do and the girls that went out there today were unbelievable.

“It is all about mindset, whether you have 11 players or 12 players, it’s a case of digging in and knowing what we want.”
