REACTION: Blues Women 2 Liverpool Women 0
Birmingham City Women manager Marta Tejedor expressed her pride at her side’s performance in front of the home supporters at St. Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium, in their 2-0 win over Liverpool Women.
An Ellen White brace ensured all three points, which took the Blues above Chelsea Women and into third.
The manager was particularly impressed with the side’s first half performance in which she thought Blues controlled the football, scoring both goals before the half time whistle.
She said: “I’m feeling extremely happy with the win but also because of the way we played today. We couldn’t control the game for 90 minutes, despite being so dominant in the first half, but the most important thing was the result and the three points.
“We saw some very interesting things on the pitch today, which we are very pleased about. So I’m very happy and it makes the players trust the method that we are trying to introduce here because we can see improvements all of the pitch.”
White’s two goal haul was her fifth and sixth of the season, having returned from injury in January, and Tejedor was delighted with the striker’s personal tally.
She said: “I’m very proud of her. This is what we expect from here, she is outstanding. Our expectation of her is really high and she always shows why we think so highly of her. It was two very good goals scored by her, which has won us the game.”
“For me, it was a very good experience. We told the players that they had to show that they deserved to play here, and they did that for our brilliant supporters here today. For me, it was wonderful.”
Playing at St. Andrew’s is a massive moment for the team and also the manager’s first taste of the action here.
In what was a special achievement for Tejedor, she was in awe of the sight she saw as the team’s stepped out on the field.
“The first time I came here, when I had a meeting after I joined the club, I saw the pitch and wondered what it would be like to experience playing here. Having the opportunity to do that, and get the win was brilliant and I am so grateful for it.
“I’m very happy to get the win in our final home game in front of the fans, especially with the way we played.
“Winning is one thing but performing in the way we did was a plus. It’s more than just three points. The way we played, it made me proud of being a part of this club.”
