REACTION: Leicester City Women 0 Blues Women 6
Blues Women boss Marc Skinner asked his team for a reaction to Sunday’s performance against Yeovil Town Ladies and he got one as his side hit Leicester City Women for six on Wednesday night.
His team were in full control for the whole 90 minutes, as goals from Lucy Staniforth, Chloe Arthur, Charlie Wellings, Aoife Mannion and a brace from Shania Hayles secured a comfortable victory for the Blues.
He said: “The performance was much better. All I asked them to do was work on what we do in training.
“I asked for a reaction from the Yeovil game and I certainly got one. I was really, really pleased with them tonight. They moved the ball, stayed patient and it was a comfortable win in the end.
“If we’d have performed the way we did tonight and only won 1-0 then I would have been equally as happy. But we still need to win because it keeps us near the top of the table.
“Last year, we didn’t qualify for the quarter-finals so if we do this year, and we’ll need to beat Bristol, then it’s just another improvement on last season.
“I think we’re at a point now where we’re starting to connect and click as a team. Now, we’ve got two tough tests to end 2018 which has been an excellent year for Birmingham City Women.”
Blues Women face Manchester City Women on Sunday, before the visit of Bristol City Women to Solihull Moors next week – two tough fixtures ahead of the Christmas break.
However, Blues can go into those with great confidence following tonight’s victory with players scoring freely.
Midfielder Arthur scored her first goal for the club since signing in the summer and the manager was full of her praises.
He said: “She’s like a Rolls Royce in midfield, she just glides. Credit to my staffing team as we identified that Chloe had those talents and that we could progress her.
“We’ve only seen a small percentage of what Chloe Arthur can give you and we like what we see. She’s quality and she’s got great attitude and that will only make her a high-quality player in the future. Hopefully, the fans are seeing why we signed a player like her.”
