REACTION: Yeovil Town Ladies 0 Blues Women 2
Charlie Wellings’ brace secured a final victory of the season for Marta Tejedor’s Birmingham City Women side.
Blues looked confident on the ball and built on their recent results and recorded back-to-back clean sheets.
The manager was happy with the performance and Blues’ domination on the field which saw them record their fourth consecutive victory to end the season in style.
It also secured a fourth placed finish, building on from the good work and foundation started this season by Marc Skinner.
Tejedor said: “With this victory, it was something that we had hoped to do. We would have been disappointed to lose, especially in the last game of the season. But I’m very happy with the performance of the team, today and in the last four fixtures.
“We’re now seeing good results, after what was a hard start when I arrived. We, as a team, had struggled with the changes, understanding each other and I think that we can look back on how far we’ve come this season in a very positive way.
“It was also important to finish the season with a win so that we have a positive mind frame going into next season. It’s a shame though that the season is over because we are in extremely good form at the moment. Four wins in four.
“We need to players to become addicted to winning, addicted to the style of play that I am trying to implement and then we can start moving forward.
“I’ve never experienced coming into a team in the middle of the season, so it was a challenge, but we’ve now built a platform for next season to build on. We will have time to rest and recover, but we will be back ready for preseason soon.”
The manager also noted how proud she was of Shania Hayles, who got some minutes under her belt in the second half for the first time under Tejedor.
The young forward, who broke into the first team with goals in the Continental Cup against Sheffield United Women and Leicester City Women, will be hoping to make a stand for first team football next season following her displays during the campaign.
