Report: Arsenal 3 Blues 0

Blues fell to a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal at Meadow Park.

Carla Ward’s side defended superbly throughout the game, but were undone by Arsenal’s quality and strength in depth.

Goals from Caitlin Foord, Jill Roord and Kim Little gave the London outfit all three points. Hannah Hampton saved a Little penalty in the first half and was a standout player for Blues.

Arsenal started the game on the front foot, but Blues managed their early pressure. Following a corner, the ball came back to Katie McCabe, but she could only put her low effort wide.

Soon after, Little found space in the area and looked destined to score, but Rachel Corsie made a block to deny her fellow Scottish teammate.

The hosts were awarded a penalty midway through the half when Beth Mead was adjudged to have been pulled back in the area.

Again, Little had a chance to score but Hannah Hampton dived to her left to deny the Arsenal midfielder.

The home side were in the ascendancy and had another chance through Vivianne Miedema. The striker cut the ball onto her right foot, but just went past the top corner.

Blues began to frustrate the hosts as the half wore on, restricting them to long range efforts that were comfortable for Hampton.

It was more of the same in the second half as Arsenal continued to apply the pressure. McCabe advanced down the left and found Foord at the back post who headed in.

The hosts had their second shortly after. Roord played the ball to Little and received it back before firing over Hampton.

The Blues ‘keeper was again on hand, this time to deny Lisa Evans, palming her low drive away.

Blues’ first proper opening came the way of Christie Murray. The Scottish midfielder gathered the ball and set herself, but Lydia Williams made a comfortable save.

In the closing stages, the referee pointed to the spot again after Corsie was adjudged to of handled the ball. Little stepped up, and this time, fired beyond the reach of Hampton.
