REPORT: Liverpool Women 0 Blues Women 2

Blues Women picked up where they left off with a 2-0 win against Liverpool Women.

A chipped effort from Emma Follis and Connie Scofield’s first goal for the club secured three points and back-to-back victories for the Blues.

Marc Skinner made three changes to the starting XI from last weekend’s victory over West Ham. Hannah Hampton made her first start in the league this season, as she took her place between the posts ahead of Ann-Katrin Berger.

While Meaghan Sargeant returned from injury and Connie Scofield got the nod over Sarah Mayling.

In the opening exchanges, Blues should have been ahead with the first effort of the game. Follis skipped her way past Leighanne Robe on the wing and swung in a delicious cross. Chloe Arthur met it but couldn’t quite get enough power on the shot to test Anke Preuss.

But there were ahead a minute later. Follis, scoring her third goal in three games, beat the offside trap and sent a half-volley into the back of the net after neat work down the left flank.

Blues shared possession with the hosts, with neither team managing to keep a hold of the ball. Efforts from Lucy Staniforth and Charlie Wellings were well blocked, while Liverpool failed to test Hampton between the sticks.

It was Skinner’s side that struck next. In the 40th minute, Scofield doubled the advantage with her first goal for the club at senior level. She coolly curled a left footed shot past Preuss and celebrated with her team-mates in delight.

In the second 45, the game began to get much more stretched. The size of the pitch meant that Blues had much more space to play with as they enjoyed their time on the ball. There were strikes from Staniforth, Harriet Scott and Hayley Ladd.

Blues always looked in control and deservedly went home with all three points.
