Blues announce first-year scholars

Blues are delighted to reveal the latest intake of first-year scholars.

The 13 players were officially inducted into Birmingham City's scholarship programme in late July, signing at St. Andrew's in the company of their loved ones before enjoying an evening with key figures from the Club.

Amongst those in attendance was Head Coach, John Eustace, who gave advice to the young players ahead of their next steps, with his Assistant Head Coach, Matt Gardiner, and Technical Director, Craig Gardner, also present.

Under-18s Lead Coach, Martyn Olorenshaw, spoke to the cohort at the event and then caught up with BCFC.com to provide the lowdown on each individual.

Alvaro Ruiz Rente

An explosive wide player, he loves to go one v one against his opponent and he is exciting to watch. He has joined the programme later, but we are really excited by his potential.

Byron Pendleton

He has been with us since pre-academy, he is another explosive player who can play in multiple positions. A technically good player that brings a great attitude at full-back or wide areas.

Cameron Eubank

A really versatile player, he can play in midfield or across the top line. He has been with the Club since Under-13s and brings a great personality to the group, along with his work ethic.

Frank Tattum

He has been with us since Pre-Academy and is a bit of a throwback number nine. Offers really good movement in behind and is a great finisher - he just lives for scoring goals.

Godfred Boakye

An adaptable player that can be played in defence or the middle of the park. He is quite creative in his play and physically he has great stature, as well as a good attitude to learning.

Jobe Bellingham

An immensely talented player who possesses huge potential. He is a creative attacker with an eye for goal and can orchestrate things, aided by a fantastic desire.

Menzi Mazwi

He joined the programme at Under-14s and is a left-footed midfield player, who has got some versatility in him. He is able to carry the ball well, twisting and turning away from opponents.

Oliver Sayer

Part of the goalkeeper’s union, he has a great range and likes to make saves. He joined in the early part of the youth development phase and has progressed ever since.

O’Shea Ellis

He is a powerful midfielder with technical attributes. He brings an eye for goal from midfield and has enjoyed the journey since Pre-Academy.

Stoyan Pergelov

We have taken him at Under-16s and he is set to represent Bulgaria internationally. He plays at left-back, with a nice left peg and his fantastic attitude brings a desire to get better.

Taylor Dodd

He is a centre-back, who loves stepping in with the ball from back areas. He is a good defender and loves defending his goal, having signed at Under-14s with a desire to improve.

Will O’Sullivan

One of the goalkeepers, he joined at the early development phase. He is really adept with his feet and a fine shot-stopper when called upon.

Zach Willis

He has been with us since pre-academy. He can play in central defence or at right-back. He is technically good and is a very intelligent footballer from the West Midlands.
