Club Update: July 2022

Club Update: July 2022

Birmingham City is able to issue the following Club Update.

With the Men’s First Team having completed two weeks of their pre-season schedule ahead of the Sky Bet Championship commencing at the end of July and the Women’s players’ returning imminently for their maiden Barclays Women’s Championship campaign, Wast Hills Training Ground is again a hive of activity.

This follows international action in June that saw Brandon Khela and George Hall represent England at youth level and Juninho Bacuna (Curacao), Neil Etheridge (The Philippines) and Scott Hogan (Republic of Ireland) all add to their senior cap totals in competitive fixtures.

Meanwhile, Captain Louise Quinn, Lucy Quinn and Jamie Finn were part of the Ireland squad last month as they overcame the Philippines and Georgia. Christie Murray earned her 75th cap as Scotland continued their qualification campaign for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Attention now turns to the upcoming campaign, with the Men’s fixtures in the calendar and the Women’s diary set to be compiled midway through July as Darren Carter will be supported by his newly appointed assistant Head Coach and 2012 FA Cup Winner, Jo Potter.

Men’s First Team staff appointments

The Club was thrilled to announce the appointment of John Eustace as our new Head Coach on Sunday evening. The 42-year-old, who enjoyed a playing career spanning 19 years, has previously enjoyed success managing Kidderminster Harriers and spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Queens Park Rangers.

At both of these teams, he was credited with developing players and integral to implementing a clear footballing identity, most recently helping QPR to consecutive top-half Championship finishes alongside working under Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny on the senior international stage.

24 hours later, Eustace’s support staff were confirmed, with Keith Downing and Matt Gardiner joining as Assistant Head Coaches and Maik Taylor, Goalkeeper Coach, returning to Blues to complete the support staff ahead of today’s pre-season trip to Portugal.

BCFC x Give Blood

We are marking our summer transfer business by raising awareness of a very important transfer – blood donation – and will be using the engagement generated when announcing Men’s and Women’s signings to profile those in need of blood.

In support of the NHS and, Blues will be raising awareness of the urgent need for more blood donors, particularly O positive, O negative and B negative donors, as well as there being a nationwide push for more Black African and Black Caribbean donors to help treat sickle cell, a disease growing at an alarming rate in communities of black heritage in the Second City.

Across the upcoming season, 175,000 new blood donors will be required to meet the demand for blood across the country and, in response to this, staff at the Football Club have already pledged to become donors and we are encouraging you to join us. Appointments are available to donate blood across the Birmingham area, including at the city donor centre on New Street.

St. Andrew’s Stadium

Blues recognises that the following information is unlikely to be seen as satisfactory amongst supporters.

Unfortunately, due to reasons that the Football Club cannot disclose at present, progress on the Stadium has slowed in recent weeks and there is no further update available at this point in time.

We appreciate the anger and frustration surrounding the continued closure of areas within the Kop and Tilton, particularly during the period of Season Ticket renewals. Once further information can be made available, you will be updated. Currently, issues out of our control are preventing this from being possible.

Season Tickets

We would like to place on record our immense thanks to everybody who has renewed their Season Ticket for the 2022/23 Championship season.

At the time of writing, 8,877 of you have pledged your support to the boys in royal blue and taken advantage of the Early Bird pricing announced back in May.

Your support does make a difference and is felt by the players on the pitch and by our staff throughout the Club, so we are delighted that you will be joining us

Please note: The Early Bird Deadline is on Saturday 9 July, 5pm, with purchases able to be made at the Stadium Ticket Office, by phone or online.

Away kit launch
The Club intends to reveal its 2022/23 away kit later this month across the Club’s official social channels and on [](

This will be the third away strip designed by Nike, following a striking all-red composition released in 2020 and the throwback yellow and blue production worn last term.

Available to purchase both online and in-person at the Blues Store following its launch in July, the design will serve as a nod to a popular former colourway worn on the team’s travels from days gone by.
