Report: West Bromwich Albion Under-18s 1-1 Blues Under-18s
Blues Under-18s drew away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday lunchtime.
The Premier League South encounter ended level after each side was unable to build upon their first-half efforts. These counters came in quick succession during a tight affair that saw Blues collect their first points since October across the West Midlands.
At the West Bromwich Albion Training Ground, the visitors hit an opener after 17 minutes as Brandon Khela assisted Ifeoluwa Oni. However, they were pegged back by the Baggies just five minutes later when a triallist levelled the scores.
And speaking after the game, Martyn Olorenshaw felt a share of the spoils was a deserved outcome.
He told BCFC.com: "It was probably a fair result. I don’t think either did enough on the day to win the game. I thought we were quite dominant in terms of our game style but lacked a cutting edge in the final third. I was not disappointed in terms of performance, they made things difficult for us.”
Blues could not build on their advantage but the Lead Under-18s Coach was pleased with the manner of how his side went in front, aligning to the Academy’s principles of play.
Olorenshaw said: “It was really well worked. We played through their midfield and Brandon slipped him in behind. It was a really nice finish from an acute angle. It was a nicely worked goal. We didn’t kick on though and were unable to create much from that point.”
The Under-18s have two further games before Christmas, with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup followed by an away league fixture against the Club’s Second City rivals.
And Olorenshaw believes his side are in a good place ahead of their trip to Bodymoor Heath.
He said: “It is a game we are looking forward to definitely. It is always a good game when you play your local rivals, there is no bigger for us. We are going to do everything we can to try and give a good account of ourselves in that game.
“We beat them in the Under-17s cup, so there is certainly a case of going into the game with a real positive mindset about how we are going to attack the game. I think we can cause them some problems - I really do.”
