Ryan Stirk: Buzzing to be back

Ryan Stirk is thrilled to be back at Blues after spending the 2021/22 season gaining experience on loan.

The midfielder enjoyed the entirety of the last campaign with Mansfield Town, helping them to reach the Sky Bet League Two play-off final at the end of May.

His time at the Stags saw him make 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring in away victories over Stevenage and Scunthorpe United as he helped the team to finish seventh.

Now back in the Second City, the 21-year-old is raring to go ahead of the new term starting on the final weekend of July as the First Team returns to commence their pre-season schedule.

This started on Monday 20 June as players underwent initial testing at Coventry University, before attending further testing at Wast Hills Training Ground 24 hours later – after which Stirk told BCFC.com how it feels to be home.

“I am buzzing to be back. Seeing all the lads yesterday was good, a few new faces that I have come across, but it is good to be back, and I can’t wait to get going again.”

Playing for Nigel Clough's side was a new challenge and Stirk's first loan move away from Blues, having joined the Academy back in 2010.

Therefore, it is something he is able to reflect on as pivotal in his learning of the game and development as an individual.

“I have played 30-odd games in the league and I think I have grown into – I know people say boy to a man – but I feel like I have, to be able to make that step up now.

“I feel like I have developed new attributes on and off the pitch, as a person I think I have grown up a little bit and realised what football is all about.

Before his loan, Ryan Stirk had made two senior appearances for Blues at the end of the 2020/21 season.

“It can be tough going on loan to a whole new place, new faces, new staff and everything, but everyone at Mansfield was welcoming and it was a good time there.”

Bringing the conversation back to the present day, Stirk outlined his aims for the immediate future.

“[I will be] working hard, we are going to have a tough pre-season, lots of games.

“All I am looking to do is get as fit as I can, work hard, show the Gaffer what I am about, and we will take it from there. The main thing is working hard and getting my head down.”
