Working in conjunction with Birmingham City, West Midlands Police and Sport England, the Premier League Kicks campaign aims to use the beautiful game to bring communities together and engage with young people.
In celebration of a very successful first year of the programme, the Premier League Kicks initiative held an U18s Futsal tournament in which Birmingham City, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City were all represented.
The Birmingham City Community Trust work closely with the Premier League and Blues’ Kicks’ campaign has become the fastest growing initiative of it’s kind in the country.
Since September 2013 the West Midlands region has engaged with over 5,000 young people across 38 different venues - almost doubling their initial target in some of the most deprived areas in the region.
Blues' David Davis went along to show his support for the initiative at the Birmingham International Futsal Arena, as did Aston Villa's Phillipe Senderos, Wolves' Richard Stearman and Coventry City's Reda Johnson.
“When you come here and see the facilities and how it’s funded, it’s really good to see." said the Blues midfielder.
“It’s good to see everyone around the West midlands getting involved, there’s a lot of big clubs around the area and it’s nice to see clubs backing the community.”
Simon Morgan, Head of Community Development at the Premier League said: “Premier League Kicks is a perfect example of how the public and private sectors can come together to unite local communities.
“This successful partnership between the Premier League, Sport England and West Midlands Police has already offered thousands of young people the opportunity to improve their lives and reach their aspirations.”
“Football clubs have a unique ability to engage young people and positively transform their lives.”
Blues narrowly missed out on winning the tournament, losing to Wolves in the final.
