There are certainly one or two markets on the continent that we are exploring because I think that could be a good option for us.
The 28-year-old former NAC Breda and Roda JC centre-half is a free agent after leaving Greek Super League side Niki Volos in December.
"He is a player that has been recommended to us," said Rowett.
"I've done what I always do, which is watch quite a few of his games. He's played in the top flight at Holland for quite a few seasons.
"He can play as a holding midfielder or as a centre-back. He went out to Greece and signed for a Dutch coach out there. The Dutch coach lost his job after three or four games and then he played most of the season. He was released from his contract and he's a now free agent.”
Rowett says that the continental market is one which he is keen to explore for hidden talent.
"We also had a look at a lad called Marcus Nilsson who is a Swedish international last week and Kees is one we're looking at this week, just because we can," he said.
"It might be the type where if someone does well, a contract to the end of the season might offer us that cover. But also we can also have a look at something maybe slightly different for next season as well.
"There are certainly one or two markets on the continent that we are exploring because I think that could be a good option for us to bring one or two players in over the next 18 months."
