Alex Jones makes Port Vale move

It is a second loan spell away from Blues for 21-year-old Jones, who previously spent a month a Grimsby last season where he made six appearances.

He also saw a loan move to New Zealand side Wellington Phoenix break down last season after the football authorities in New Zealand missed the deadline to register him.

Jones becomes the second Blues player to join another club this week, with Wes Harding making the switch to non-league Alfreton.

Port Vale, who are managed by Bruno Ribeiro, kicked off their league campaign at the weekend with a 0-0 draw away at Bradford.

Vale are next in action on Saturday when they play host to Southend United.

There is a recall clause on 1 January should Blues wish to use it and Jones will still be eligible to play in non-first team fixtures for Birmingham City.
