Bittersweet debut for Roberts

It's a long old season, but I think there were flashes of what we can do in there and we'll look to take those positives into the next game.

Marc Roberts was pleased to get his first competitive Blues start under his belt, but was understandably disappointed to see it end in defeat at Ipswich.

However, the central defender, who was one of Blues’ best performers on the day, felt there were plenty of positives to build on, despite the 1-0 loss.

“We went there looking for the win, as we will do every game because that's how the manager wants us to play,” said the former Barnsley man.

“Obviously we're disappointed, but there are positives to take from the performance - especially the first-half when I think we played some good stuff and looked solid.

“Up until they scored I don't think Ipswich had a chance really. But they took their chance when it came along and we're disappointed as a group.”

Ipswich’s goal came just into the second-half, and directly from Blues’ own attack when David Davis’ volleyed effort was cleared and the hosts burst up the other end.

“It's fine margins because if we'd scored that chance it's a different game and we'd have probably run out comfortable winners,” continued Roberts

“But we lost our shape a little bit once we'd conceded.

“We've just got to pick ourselves up quickly and move onto the next game.

“It's a long old season, but I think there were flashes of what we can do in there and we'll look to take those positives into the next game.

“That's all you can do in football. We're a positive group of lads and hopefully we'll move on quickly and get three points next week.”

Despite Saturday being the first time that the 27-year-old had played alongside Michael Morrison, there were early indications that the pair will form a formidable partnership in the heart of the Blues defence in front of David Stockdale.

“I think it (the partnership) will be good,” said Roberts.

“I've settled in pretty quickly and Morro has been a big part of that.

“He's a leader in the dressing room and he's helped me settle in.

“And playing alongside him, I think will only do me good.

“He's got a lot of experience and hopefully I'll learn from him.

“Also, playing of front of David Stockdale can only give you confidence

“You saw last year he was in the team of the season.

“I think he's got fantastic ability and hopefully he can help us get too where we want to be, come the end of the season.”
