Blues Under-23s win at Hednesford

Odin Bailey in action.

Blues rounded off their friendly campaign before the league kick-off on Monday.

Blues Under-23s secured a 1-0 victory over Hednesford Town on Tuesday evening.

Odin Bailey scored the only goal at Keys Park.

Bailey finished off a good team move 10 minutes into the second-half, manoeuvring into the area with a jinking run before cutting onto his right foot and firing a shot that squeezed underneath the goalkeeper.

Charlie Lakin cracked the inside of the post with a thunderous shot from distance.

And Kyle McFarlane elected to square the ball when clean through as Blues created good openings throughout.

"We played well and should have had a few more goals," reflected Lead Professional Development Coach Richard Beale.

"We dominated the ball and continued to play the possession-based game Lee (Carsley) wants.

"We mixed it up a bit as well to make sure everybody got their minutes topped up in readiness for the first league game on Monday."

It was a pleasing return to his old stamping ground for Remeao Hutton, who signed for Blues from Hednesford in the summer after a impressing on trial.

He was part of a defence that had Steve Seddon and Olly Mulders as centre-halves.

Lakin sat deeper in midfield three including Corey O'Keeffe and Bailey.

Blues: Lefebvre, Hutton (McFarlane 60), Timms, Seddon (Redmond 60), Mulders (Bajarmi 60), Lakin (Boyd-Munce 65), O'Keeffe (Anderson 65), McCoy, Hale, Bailey, McDonald. Not used: Weaver.
