Blues came from behind once more to secure a hard-fought victory over the Terriers at Wast Hills.

Steve Seddon glanced in a free-kick from the left to put Blues level in the 67th minute.

And two minutes from the end Charlie Lakin volleyed home a cross by Beryly Lubala to secure the points in this PDL2 fixture.

The Development Squad have made a habit of recovering a seemingly lost cause in recent weeks and again their character – plus goal threat and staying power – came to the fore.

The game was also notable for the debut of Ryan Burke at left-back, a day after his 17th birthday.

He showed no nerves, either, producing one thunderous tackle in a 50-50.

And Dominic Bernard made his comeback from a long-term Achilles tendon injury which he suffered in December.

Bernard, who came on at the break for Corey O’Keeffe, came close to putting Blues 2-1 ahead in the 74th minute when he nodded towards the net after Ryan Schofield could only knock up a dipping cross into the area, but a brilliant backheader over his own crossbar by Rarmani Green denied him.

In a tight first-half, Blues came close to scoring when Lubala cut in from the left and arched a fierce shot that only just cleared the woodwork.

And Ronan Hale, after the ball dropped at his feet once Schofield tried to palm away a cross by Remeao Hutton, drilled goalwards from the left of the area but was thwarted by a superb defensive block yards from the line.

The game really sprang to life after the interval and Huddersfield left Blues with a lot of work to do by taking a 50th minute lead.

A short corner created a chance for a burst into the area and from the subsequent low cross Danny Kane stabbed the ball in at the front post.

Blues readjusted by bringing on Tai-Reece Chisholm and moving Lubala to the right-hand side of attack and Wes McDonald to the left.

A foul on McDonald precipitated the leveller, as Lakin whipped in a great cross from the free-kick towards a line of in-rushing blue shirts and there was Seddon to get the decisive header past Schofield.

As the competitive levels of the match went up a notch with tackles going in from both sides, Blues kept on forcing the issue and were rewarded at the death.

There was some nice combination play wide on the right and Lubala wriggled in near the byline before delivering a waist-high cross that was expertly turned in on the full by Lakin, who opened his body out nicely to gain the scoring angle past the ‘keeper.

Blues: Trueman, Hutton, Burke (Cleary 72), Martin, Seddon, Lakin, O’Keeffe (Bernard ht), McCoy (Chisholm 63), Lubala, Hale, McDonald. Not used: Weaver, Concannon.
