It was announced today that the Club's matchday publication is the runner-up in Programme Monthly’s ‘Championship Programme of the Season’ awards for 2017/18.
Programme Monthly, the leading publication for football programme and memorabilia collectors in the UK, described Blues News as ‘an excellent issue’.
Their full review of the 76-page production, edited by Peter Lewis and designed in-house by Pete Stanley, Jake Kirk and Jennie Adams, reads as follows...
"Blues News from Birmingham City has an excellent main player interview that runs for six pages and includes a potted history of the subject’s career and some nicely presented stats.
"The visitors’ pages include a Q&A with a supporter of the opposition and an A to Z feature that runs for four pages exploring the links between the two competing clubs.
‘Previous Encounter’ follows, two pages that go into real depth on a past clash between the two sides.
‘10 Quick Teasers’ is a good question page, before ‘Snapshot of the Past’ takes a photo of a past clash and does write-ups on the individuals pictured.
‘Harry’s Heroes’ is the standout feature, recalling in details the Club’s 1947-48 promotion season.
‘On This Day’ might be a standard feature, but the Blues handle it with real depth, analysing two games from past years with context.
‘One Hit Wonders’ is a feature on Blues’ players who scored on just one occasion for the club, whilst ‘The Alliance Years’ looks at the club’s formative years, when it was known as Small Heath Alliance.
‘Sixties Scrapbook’ is a visual one pager with newspaper cutting and programme pages, followed by ‘Blue Eyed Boys’ a four page interview with a past player.
A vibrant front cover features a cut out of a player set against some abstract brush strokes and some nice visual touches in the main player interview.
An excellent issue."
