Players who can fit into that, who have the same mentality and can slot into that way of thinking, is what you look for as a manager.

Blues boss Garry Monk has welcomed the arrival of Kristian Pedersen to the Club and believes the Danish youngster has all the attributes needed to become a success in the Second City.

The Danish Under-21 left-back became Monk's first signing when he penned a four-year deal on Monday, after joining from from German side Union Berlin.

"I’m really pleased to have him here," said Monk. "I think it’s an exciting signing for the Club. Looking at that position I felt it was somewhere we needed to strengthen.

"When we try and recruit a player there are things we look for. Is he young and hungry and looking to prove a point? Is he already at a good level in terms of his development but is he someone who we can try to take to a different level?

"Those things are all part of what you look for in a player and Kristian fits that mould perfectly."

Pedersen is relatively tall for a full-back, standing at 6ft 2in. And as well as his attacking capabilities on the flank, he is certainly not afraid to put in a tackle.

"He’s (Pedersen) young, he’s aggressive and he’s fit," added Monk.

"He’s physical and easily has the attributes for this league and better.

"We also look at the type of player we want to bring in in terms of the personality and all of the ingredients were there with him so we’re very pleased to have him with us.

"The standard of everything we do now needs to be higher. The players and staff are aware that we have to change the mentality and set the bar higher.

"Players who can fit into that, who have the same mentality and can slot into that way of thinking, is what you look for as a manager.

"It’s about shaping the squad how you want it and making sure all the players are pulling in the right direction. That’s what we’ve tried to do, starting with Kristian."
