Jota – It's up to us to build on that first win

I think I am doing good performances but obviously I want to score more goals and I want more assists.

Jota says that Blues’ first win of the season has ‘lifted everyone at the Club.’

Garry Monk’s side upset the odds by beating league leaders Leeds United on the Whites’ home turf last weekend, but the Spanish winger felt it was a result that was well overdue.

“Sometimes in games you are unlucky not to score and you do all the same stuff, the same performance but the other team tries to win too,” he said.

“The last couple of games we have performed really well, and all done a good job. I think last week it was a very difficult game because Leeds are playing well but we knew what we were doing so that they didn't score (early).

“The work for us has been the same since we started this season, we are performing really, really well, we are working hard and when you do that you need to stay relaxed because the win will come.

“It came in a very difficult time, but it really lifted everyone at the Club.”

Jota insists that whilst the victory against Leeds is welcome, it is crucial that Blues look to build on that result heading into Saturday’s home game against winless Ipswich Town.

“The most important thing is only thinking about the next game because we need to keep the level we have been doing and only think about this week’s game, it is a difficult game, they are a good team.

“They are down in the table but as I said before, in this league every team can beat you, we need to be focused 100 per cent and keep doing what we have been doing.”

On a personal level, Jota’s own game continues to go from strength to strength.

After largely failing to hit the heights he is capable of until the back end of last season, Jota is really enjoying his football under Monk and insists there is more to come.

“Yes, obviously last season the first step was very hard, we had a lot of change,” he revealed.

“I didn't understand really what the other manager wanted - but we need to forget that moment.

“Since the new gaffer has come I am really happy. I know they have a lot of confidence in me, giving confidence is important for me. I think all the people are happy with me.

“Since the start of the season I have tried to work hard, be very focused listen to the gaffer, so that I can try to help the team the maximum on and off the pitch.

“I am playing well but there is always more to come.

“This time now we have had nine games, I think I am doing good performances but obviously I want to score more goals and I want more assists.

“But the most important is the work and the performance.

“If you are doing the right things they will come but you can't wait 'God, give me goals'. If you are performing and you are happy with what you are doing, they will come.

“I am not anxious for goals or assists, I want to help the team, I am helping the team to run this way, for me the most important is to try and get the three points every week.”
