Blues striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has been announced as the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for October.

The 28-year-old striker scored five goals last month, including his first career hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Rotherham United.

He also scored in the victories over Reading and Sheffield Wednesday and has formed a strong forward partnership with Che Adams up front.

Garry Monk’s side picked up 13 league points from the 15 available after an unbeaten five-match sequence.

The Blues boss was therefore a strong contender for the Manager of the Month award, but that accolade went to Steve McClaren whose QPR side accrued the same number of points as Blues.

Speaking after picking up his award, Jykiewicz said: "“It is lovely to pick up this award.

"I very much appreciate it, but it has been a good month for us as a team, we have picked up a lot of points and managed to turn what was a lot of draws into the wins that we wanted.

“I think a lot of the credit goes to my team mates. I rely on the service they provide and that has been top quality, so have to thank them for that.

“Playing regularly helps. Since the manager has come in I have played in all the games and it helps with your confidence to know that a manager is willing pick you week in, week out.”

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

Talking about Jutkiewicz's contribution, Goodman added: “By setting the team up to Jutkiewicz’s strengths, Garry Monk has reaped the benefits of the striker’s undoubtable talents.

“’The Juke' is flying this season, with a goal against Derby in Birmingham’s first November fixture bringing his total to nine, only two fewer than his best season in England."
