Preview: Blues v Brentford

We've completed the first two hurdles and we need to make sure we try and do that in the next one against Brentford.

Garry Monk

Our full match preview ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship fixture against the Bees at the St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium (3.00pm kick-off).

Garry Monk's thoughts on the victory over Stoke on Wednesday...
"It was a performance to be proud of and we were fantastic from start to finish. It's back to back wins in a short period of time and you can see how hard these players are working. We're doing that against squads that are much stronger than us on paper. We're just going out there and trying to show what we're about."

Garry Monk on Blues' current league position...
"We're not interested in where we are in the league table and what this could mean and that could mean. The whole point of the season is to show that the Club can be better than they have been over the past few seasons and be on an upward trajectory rather than looking over our shoulders all the time. Consistency-wise we're proving to be a hard team to play against and if you can collect points at the same time, then great."

Garry Monk on the atmosphere generated by the home fans against Stoke…
"The way we started in the first ten or 20 seconds we got on the front foot and intercepted the ball and ended up with a shot and that lifted the crowd, and the atmosphere just went through the roof."

Garry Monk on Omar Bogle scoring his first Blues goal against the Potters...
"It was a fantastic goal at a crucial time as well. I put it down to hard work. It's not been easy for him coming in later and adjusting to how we work and what we need from each player. He's taken time to adjust to that, but over the last month, especially in training, he's come roaring back and looking like a player that can really help us. I'm delighted for him."

Garry Monk on the fitness of his squad…
"The reason we worked so hard in pre-season is for periods like this now. They're conditioned and they're ready. We don't have the luxury of strategically replacing players, but we're not worried about that."

Garry Monk on the Brentford game...
"I said before the Wigan game we’ve got four games in 11 days. The challenge physically is to match what we know we can do. You've seen it in the two games we've just played, but to do it in all four is going to be a big ask. But we've completed the first two hurdles and we need to make sure we try and do that in the next one against Brentford, which is another difficult game."

Brentford Head Coach Thomas Frank's comments ahead of the game...
“I would settle for the same display (as the Bees put in against Bristol City in their 1-1 draw last time out) at Birmingham on Saturday, with a little more luck. The header for Bristol’s goal would have gone wide if it had not hit a defender and overall I thought we deserved to win the game. If we keep playing like that the away victory will come.”

Blues team news...
Kristian Pedersen will have a late fitness test on the ankle problem that saw him miss Blues' last two games. David Davis (ankle) and Isaac Vassell (hip) miss out.

Brentford team news...
Chris Mepham, Emiliano Marcondes and Lewis Macleod have all been carrying injuries and are doubtful for Saturday.
