If Blues are to win, they will progress through to the quarter-finals of the cup, having already picked up three victories in Group One North. They were only halted by Manchester City Women at the start of the season, on penalties.
Marc Skinner’s side face Bristol who we have already faced this year in the league. Previously, it took a spectacular goal from Aoife Mannion to separate the two sides as the defender had already missed a penalty, with former Blue Sophie Baggaley making a great save to deny her old club.
Bristol sit third in Group One North on seven points, just three behind Blues (with 10 points) so this time, with a quarter-final place up for grabs, manager Skinner insists Blues will have to be at their best.
He said: “We’ve got to try and win. Everybody knows how much respect I have for Bristol and in particular Tanya [Oxtoby]. We’ve got to make sure we’re at our best to take the points and progress into the quarter-finals of the Conti Cup.”
Skinner has had little time to reflect on 2018, with four games in 10 days to end the year, but he did acknowledge that it has been a brilliant year for the club.
He said: “2018 has been a fantastic year regardless of a negative result. We can’t let it sour that. For a club like Birmingham to play the way they do and pick up the results they do, with the clean sheets they do, I have nothing but pride.
“But we’ll be looking to end the year on a high here at home on Wednesday night.”
