Boss Garry Monk gives his thoughts on a comeback win over the Blades.

Garry Monk on a crucial victory for his side…

"It’s a huge step forward, getting the three points and other results going our way, but it’s still definitely not job done. Today was very special in terms of the atmosphere and the players’ performance. To go a goal behind so early is hard enough, but in our situation, fighting relegation, it was great to see that mentality and belief to come back. You can talk about belief all you want, all these things come out but they’re just words. We’ve tried to make them into actions all the way through, and I don’t think anyone can doubt that, especially today. It was a really gutsy performance, a real mentality performance of strong togetherness and fight, and quality at times. The fans responded to that, it was the best atmosphere I’ve seen so far, just when it was needed and called upon. So it all came together through a bit of adversity to get the most importing thing which was three points.

Garry Monk on the tremendous backing from the fans…

“I’ve played here as an opposition player many times and played against some good sides here and seen the atmosphere and what type of club it is. We all know about the history of the Club and the size of the support. And then you get days like today and Bolton away with the amount of fans we took there. Every game here has been good, it’s been building and today has been the best yet at St. Andrew’s. You ask for that as a manager, but you have to give something back with the performance and the attitude of the team and they could see how hard that team are working for that shirt.”

Garry Monk on Jacques Maghoma’s winning goal…

“We’ve been practising one-v-ones for the last two weeks and we’ve missed quite a few of those situations in some of the games, so it was nice to see one go in. But credit to him, we deserved that. It was great to see that finish go in, but I thought the performance all round was brilliant. It’s a difficult situation for everyone, but it was a really gutsy performance, full of grit, full of determination. And we had quality when we needed it and that’s good to see. As in all the performances, there have been a lot of positives but the most important thing is the results.”

Garry Monk on the way his side have risen to the challenge of a relegation battle…

“You either fear it or you meet it head on, and we’re trying to meet it head on. That’s the mentality we’ve put into the players and they’ve grown with it all the time, and today you saw that. There was no fear there today. Even with the goal against where we could have easily felt sorry for ourselves, they keep me showing me that. There have been a lot of times where we could have crumbled, but the mentality is getting stronger. The players showed great resilience there today and the mentality to keep fighting and believing against a very good side.”
