REACTION: Wigan 0 Blues 3

I thought the first-half was a little more even and then the second-half we stepped it up and were in total control of the game from that point onwards. We got the goals, got the clean sheet and got an important three points.

Garry Monk talks to the media following Saturday's win over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium...

Garry Monk on the performance...

"I thought it was very professional, we were clinical, we got a clean sheet and we had good game management. I think we haven't been at our maximum the last couple of games so we talked to the players - we wanted to get back to that and I thought we showed that today. Today we were much stronger defensively and offensively and we were rewarded for that."

Garry Monk on the fine build up for the first goal...

"It was part of the plan this week to continue to work on strengthening the partnership between Che and Lukas, it is the plan always, if we can get at the back four we believe we have the quality to create chances and the way Che and Jukey are playing at the moment you always feel that if they get an opportunity they will take it. They were fantastic and that set us on our way, I thought the first-half was a little more even and then the second-half we stepped it up and were in total control of the game from that point onwards. We got the goals, got the clean sheet and got an important three points."

Garry Monk on the defensive display...

"We've conceded a couple in the last two games, but I thought today we were good at both ends. Wigan put a few dangerous crosses into the box but we dealt with them really well, I'm just very pleased - we stepped it up a little bit in terms of the standard and that is credit to the players."

Garry Monk on playing Wes Harding at right-back and moving Maxime Colin to left-back due to Kristian Pedersen's absence...

"Yeah I just felt that Wes is a young player making his way in his career, I've used him as a left-back a few times this season but I felt starting it him in on his preferred side would make it a little more comfortable for him. We had a slight problem with Kristian during the week in training, but we’re hopeful he’ll be ready for the next game. He kicked the bottom of (another player's) studs, and there was a bit of a twist with it, at the top of his ankle. There was a bit of irritation on his ligament and it was late in the week in terms of recovery. We had to kind of rejig, but with Michael Morrison coming back in... I thought Wes was excellent. Max moved to the left because of his experience, like he did at the end of last season. The whole team was very, very good. They did a professional job."

Garry Monk on the 4,593 travelling Bluenoses...

"It is fantastic, there are a number of things we are fighting for, but at the start of the season we wanted to make sure that we are giving something back to the fans, it was the last thing we said before we left the changing room, that there are 4,500 fans here who have come to support you guys today at this time of year were money can be scarce and can be spent on other things, to get that many here is fantastic, we wanted to give them a performance and I think that was just added motivation for us."
