It’s a wonderful opportunity for our coaches to gain an insight into the Spanish coaching culture.

Sixteen Blues Academy coaches are spending the next four days with Blues partner club UE Cornella.

The trip is aimed at building closer links between staff at both clubs and the schedule includes a mix of coaching, training and match observations.

In addition, Blues coaches will work alongside coaches performing similar roles at the UE Cornella Academy programme, whilst also having the opportunity to view some regional cup fixtures and La Liga games.

Stuart English, Blues Academy Head of Coaching, said: "It’s a wonderful opportunity for our coaches to gain an insight into the Spanish coaching culture, whilst spending some time talking about our programme and where it can be improved."

Richard Brooke, Blues Academy Under-7s - Under-10s Lead Foundation Coach, commented: "It's a fantastic gesture from the Board of Directors to support our development as a number of the coaches who wouldn’t usually get the opportunity to come abroad and gain this kind of insight are on the trip.

"Being able to spend time with coaches from another country and discuss player development is very exciting, and an experience we will take a lot from," added Brooke, who has been at Blues for eight years.

Catalan side UE Cornella are based near Barcelona and play in the third tier of Spanish football.

Blues entered into a partnership with UE Cornella towards the end of 2017.

There have been player exchanges, at all various age groups, with Blues players from Under-23s to Under-18s and younger spending time training with their Spanish counterparts.

Blues Under-23s enjoyed a mid-season training camp and friendly at UE Cornella last March.

And as well as this and coach education, the Clubs are working closely together to pool their sporting, administrative and business expertise.
