Pep Clotet could have Jacques Maghoma available for Saturday's trip to Charlton Athletic after the winger came through a week of full training.

Maghoma has been sidelined since picking up a calf injury during the opening day victory against Brentford.

And with fellow wide man Jefferson Montero out of action for several weeks with a thigh injury it could be a timely return for Maghoma.

Maghoma had a slight setback recently, but has been able to increase his workload.

"Jacques had a few training sessions this week with us and got better and better and today he had a really good session," said Clotet at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

"It's about him stepping up a little bit slowly, we have to remember he played in the Africa Cup of Nations (for DR Congo) so he hasn't had much chance to have a good rest in the summer like the others.

"Now he has had the chance to put that behind him and get back to his fitness level.

"We know he is a player who can help us to achieve big things."

There is also positive news regarding Cheick Keita who took a knock to his ankle playing for the Under-23s on Monday at Bristol City and came off.

Clotet says Keita's assets are best utilised further forward rather than as full-back. His two appearances for the Under-23s so far this season after recovering from a hamstring injury have been in wide midfield.

Having been sidelined for so long, Keita is still getting up to speed on his physical conditioning and sharpness.

"He is working a lot on the physical side and he played on Monday," said Clotet.

"He has been training with us this week. There were no issues from Monday.

"Physically he needs to get up to speed and then it will be up to me if I think he can help us.

“I see him more as a winger than as a full-back, that is what we work on here."

Elsewhere in the squad, midfielder Agustin Medina is expected to return to training on Friday after recovering from a thigh injury.

Kerim Mrabti is full over his hamstring problem and Jude Bellingham has returned from international duty with England Under-17s unscathed, with Clotet admitting that he has to be mindful of managing the teenager's workload.

Jonathan Grounds (calf) has increased his training and was back with the main group at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre, Wast Hills, this week.

Jefferson Montero  sustained a grade one tear to his thigh in the win against Stoke City last time out.

Maikel Kieftenbeld is making good progress from his knee operation and could be back in training in the New Year, Clotet revealed.
