Garry Monk has praised the performances and leadership of Michael Morrison.

And the Blues Manager revealed that the Club were hopeful of sorting out his contract situation to a satisfactory conclusion.

The Captain’s deal is up in the summer and Blues, due to the EFL imposed business plan, have not been able to secure his future just yet.

“This week especially, you need leadership, that heart on sleeve mentality.

"I think Morro has led the team on and off the pitch excellently this year.

"He has been a huge influence, along with others. That’s why it is such a close-knit group.

“That’s why you can see the fight in them. It’s clear. It has been there all season, if I am honest with you. That attitude to respond to adversity.

“Morro has been at the forefront of that.”

Morrison netted Blues equaliser in the draw against Sheffield United, his sixth goal of the campaign.

And he and Harlee Dean were absolute rocks in the heart of the defence against the Blades and Leeds United, two automatic promotion-chasing teams who were limited in serious attempts at Blues goal.

“In terms of the contract, we want Morro to be here,” continued Monk.

“He’s an important part of what we have done this season, and going forward.

“So that side, I have already spoken to him about that.”

Blues go to Ipswich Town on Saturday seeking to take another stride towards Championship safety.

Six points clear, matters are firmly in their hands.

The hosts will be relegated should they not beat Monk's men.

Monk cautioned: "I’ve actually watched a lot of their last four of five games. They’ve been unlucky. They’ve played better than the results they have had.

“It is going to be a tough game for us. They’re all going to be fighting (the teams around the bottom of the table). We have to perform."

Monk added: "We don’t want to just scrape through (to safety). We want more than that.

“It's been a huge return for us, this week, considering the teams we played and coming off the back of that losing streak. But it’s not job done.

"We have got the immediate where we need to get away from the relegation zone. That is not going to be easy.

“But we do want to try and finish strongly."
