Message from Preston North End to Blues supporters

Preston North End’s Ground Safety Department have asked us to pass on the following message.

At Saturday’s fixture at Deepdale, Birmingham City supporters will as usual occupy the Bill Shankly Kop and turnstiles will open at 1.30pm. There are now very few public houses within walking distance of the stadium. The Bill Shankly Kop concourse will sell a range of alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks and hot/cold food. However, alcohol will be sold pre-match only. The concourse kiosks will open at half-time for soft drinks and food.

We are aware that is a special day for Birmingham City supporters. As your supporters will occupy the whole of the Bill Shankly Kop, there will be very little opportunity to display flags (which need a fire safety certificate) due to the lack of space.

All of our staff will assist to make this a great day for you, but they will need some help from you also. This is an appeal from the Safety Team at Preston North End for Birmingham City supporters not to attempt to bring or use pyrotechnics at Deepdale this Saturday. Pyrotechnics discharged especially on the concourse cause it to fill with smoke. This has led to difficulties for some supporters.

For your information, when you arrive at the turnstiles additional search stewards will be deployed together will the use of pyrotechnic detection dogs. You are advised to arrive early due to the increased search procedures.

On the Bill Shankly Kop concourse and the stand,  CCTV cameras have been upgraded and anyone using a pyrotechnic will be identified. This will lead to a lengthy ban. Police officers will assist with the detection of pyrotechnics throughout the day.

So please come to Preston North End on Saturday to have a great day out, but leave the pyros at home for the wellbeing and safety of all Birmingham City supporters
