Birmingham City Women return to league action on Wednesday night against Brighton and Hove Albion Women.

After bowing out of the Women’s FA Cup at the weekend with defeat to Reading, Blues have all eyes on the Women’s Super League.

Marta Tejedor’s side are currently fourth in the league behind Chelsea Women, with a point separating the two sides but with a game in hand over the reigning champions.

They face a Brighton side that have only won twice in 15 games. In the reverse fixture, Blues were victorious by a 1-0 score line.

Defender Aoife Mannion scored the only goal of the game, on the stroke of half-time, from the penalty spot.

Tejedor will face off with Hope Powell in the opposite dugout, with the Seagulls looking to push bodies forward to put pressure on a resilient Blues back line.

While Blues will be hoping to bounce back from defeat in the cup.

Tejedor said: “Of course, if we get a good result coupled with a good performance on Wednesday then Sunday’s result in the FA Cup will be easier to take.

“It allows us to focus on the league and try and challenge for a Champions League spot.

“It is absolutely important that we get a result against Brighton. It’s important that we get the three points ahead of a long international break.”
