Reaction: Sheffield Wednesday 1 Blues 1

Gimenez is very good at attacking those crosses at the near post. I hope that gives him more calm and confidence.

Pep Clotet’s thoughts after seeing his side earn a tough point against The Owls at Hillsborough…

Pep Clotet asked if it was a good point for Blues, or a game he thought they should have won...
"We managed to take the lead and keep it for a large part of the game, but we didn't. Like last Saturday away from home at Huddersfield we wanted to improve and in these last two games against tough opponents we're happy to take these points. The only thing we missed in the first-half was a punch in the final third. When it comes to everything between our goal and the final third I think we had the ball and had control in midfield despite them having three midfielders and us only having two."

On not pressing home the advantage after Blues had taken the lead…
They were very vulnerable after we scored the goal, they opened up and rushed too much to try and get back into the game. Our team felt very comfortable in those spells, because we are a team that can play as well, if we are leading we can get on the break or if that break does not come or we can keep the ball and slowly build an attack to try and get the second goal. The game for us was to try and get the second goal and kill it, unfortunately for us that didn’t happen. Then they had the goal on a shot, I think we could defended that a little bit better but there is nothing I can say about my players because defending today they showed a lot of tactical wisdom and a lot of mentality to get through opposition that for me is a team that is fighting for the top two."

On the continuing fine performances from his young players...
“I really like the vision that the owners have to develop young talent. This is something that I think football needs. The fact that Jude Bellingham is 16 and played against an overloaded Sheffield Wednesday midfield with three midfielders, we controlled it with Ivan Sunjic and Jude and showed that tactical understanding of the game and technical skill. It shows what Birmingham are trying to do. It makes us proud to keep developing this talent. When it comes to Jude I think he's improving by the minute and deserves to play. He's becoming a very good player.”
On Alvaro Gimenez’s goal…
“I was very pleased for Alvaro. You're always very happy when your forward scores goals. We've been working hard to capitalise more from our actions. In the midfield line especially, Dan and Fran are the players in our midfield that can help us create even more. We knew that Sheffield Wednesday would offer some gaps wide, so we circulated the two forwards between the full-back and centre-back. Gimenez is very good at attacking those crosses at the near post. I hope that gives him more calm and confidence. It's not easy for a footballer coming to a new country and culture, but slowly Alvaro is adapting.”
