Birmingham City Women came from behind for the second time in four days to beat West Ham Women 2-1.

Hayley Ladd scored her second in two games to cancel out Leon Adriana’s opening goal, before Chloe Arthur bagged her first goal in the league for the Club to secure all three points.

Marta Tejedor made four changes to the side that dispatched Everton in midweek, including the introduction of Marisa Ewers and Charlie Wellings.

Blues enjoyed the lion share of possession in the opening exchanges of the match, but neither side tested their opposite goalkeepers.

However, it was West Ham who broke the deadlock. The Irons capitalised on the advantage given to them down the flank. Kate Longhurst, making her 100th appearance for the opposition, crossed in from the left which was met by Leon Adriana who smashed it home on the volley.

Now in the ascendancy, West Ham looked to continue to knock on the Blues back door, but the game took a turn in the final five minutes. A long ball over the top was bared down on by goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse. Adjudged to have handled it outside the box, the referee showed the ‘keeper the red card and awarded Blues a direct free-kick on the edge of the area.

Ladd, coming off the back of a spectacular goal on Wednesday night against Everton, stepped up and confidently lifted it into the top corner beyond substitute goalkeeper and former Blue Becky Spencer.

After the break, Blues continued in the same fashion. With the majority of possession, they looked to get themselves in front. Ewers went close with a volley on the edge of the box, while Kerys Harrop’s header was cleared off the line in an emphatic nature.

They got themselves infront after being frustrated by a structured West Ham backline. Ladd played in a deep corner which couldn’t be claimed by Spencer. It fell into the path of Arthur who could do nothing but slot it into the back of an empty net.
