Ryan Stirk was in action for Wales Under-21s, with Caolan Boyd-Munce on international duty for Northern Ireland Under-21s.BCFC
Liam Cullen's fine second-half goal for the hosts sealed a narrow 1-0 win at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
Stirk was introduced as a 73rd minute replacement for Robbie Burton and the Blues youngster wasted no time in getting involved as he was cautioned just nine minutes after stepping on the pitch.
The result meant that Wales leapfrogged their opponents into third place in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and Germany.
Elsewhere, fellow Blues midfielder Caolan Boyd-Munce was in action for Northern Ireland Under-21s yesterday in their Euro Under-21 qualifier against Romania.
Boyd-Munce completed 84 minutes as Northern Ireland were held to a 0-0 draw at the Ballymena Showgrounds.
And it was Boyd-Munce who came closest to breaking the deadlock for Northern Ireland as he smashed a free-kick just wide of the upright and also had an effort saved.
The disappointing result leaves Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for the finals in doubt, with them currently in fifth spot in Group H.
