Kieftenbeld made his First Team comeback as a 72nd minute substitute at Millwall at the end of last month which was his first competitive action since the antertior cruciate ligament injury.

The Club can confirm that the option on Maikel Kieftenbeld's contract has been taken up.

Blues pledged to support the midfielder immediately after he suffered a serious knee injury in the game against Leeds United in April.

Kieftenbeld was notified that not only would we provide him with the best medical care and attention as he began he rehabilitation, but we would commit to a 12-month option on his deal.

Kieftenbeld's contract was due to expire this coming summer but the Club formally triggered the option in June.

And he started Blues' FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Leicester City last Wednesday.
