Carla Ward wins Manager of the Month award

The players have been outstanding, they are a pleasure to work with and they make my job quite easy.

Carla Ward

Carla Ward has won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League manager of the month award for October.

An impressive month saw Blues pick up back-to-back league wins against Reading and Bristol City.

Blues also picked up a win against Blackburn Rovers in the Conti Cup with Claudia Walker scoring the only goal of the game.

After starting October with a narrow defeat to defending champions Chelsea, Blues picked up all three points away at a tough Reading side.

Walker again scored the only goal of the game that gave Ward’s side their first league win of the season.

The side ended the month with an important clash against Bristol City. An excellent afternoon saw Blues score four and record three clean sheets in-a-row.

Blues now sit 7th in the table after the strong month.

To win the award, Ward overcame the challenge of Joe Montemurro, Casey Stoney and Willie Kirk.

On picking up the accolade, Head Coach Ward said: “All of the staff have been brilliant. I told them that I wouldn’t have done it [won MOTM] without them.

“They try and tell me that I drive the bus, but each of them brings individual qualities that makes it a good team.

“The players have been outstanding, they are a pleasure to work with and they make my job quite easy.”
