I'm confident that possibly in the next few weeks we'll have a full squad.Pep Clotet.
The 29-year-old has not figured for Blues since being stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 1-1 home draw with Millwall at the end of November.
And with fellow defender Jake Clarke-Salter also sidelined because of injury during much of that same period, Blues have struggled for results.
“Marc Roberts started to train today and I'm hoping he'll be available next week,” said Blues' Head Coach.
“He was outside on his own with the coach, but I'm hoping he'll be with us (the group) tomorrow and can complete a week of training next week.
“We're very confident that he should be available for Cardiff (Blues' next home fixture on 18 January).
“With him and Jake Clarke-Salter back it will be put behind us a difficult period weeks of trying to sort out the team without centre-backs and forcing Harlee (Dean) to spend a lot of time on the pitch and suffer a big effort.”
There is also positive news regarding midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld.
The Dutchman has not played since damaging his knee (ACL) in the win against Leeds last April.
“A week, or couple of weeks after Marc, Kief should be back,” confirmed Clotet.
“He did part of the training with us yesterday and today.
“And he will join in with us slowly at his pace.
“He' looks fit but obviously he will need some proper intense training.
"I'm confident that possibly in the next few weeks we'll have a full squad.
“Getting Jake Clarke-Salter, Marc Roberts and Kieftenbeld back in the team at this moment for me, these are the best signings we can do in January apart from other things that can happen.”
