Reaction: Blues 1 Barnsley 2

We just have to keep going. I think there is a good group of lads, but being a good group of lads we have to demand from each other and have everyone on board.

Aitor Karanka spoke to the press after this evening's game...

Aitor Karanka on the match against Barnsley…

“A very difficult game. They were much better than us and it has been difficult to understand. I tried to pick the best 11 players to try to play good football, players who like to play. We couldn’t pass the ball more than two or three times in the first half – it was frustrating. At half-time I told them ‘it wasn’t tactics’, we just needed to create more with the ball. We started the second-half better and scored, I thought the game was going to be easier, but the opponent scored and we’ve lost the game.”

Aitor Karanka on the quality of the goal…

“It is frustrating because I don’t know how many times I told them to try and play [like that] because I wanted the players to be aggressive and stronger on the pitch. We have players who like to play and have the quality to play but we have to keep going.”

Aitor Karanka on his substitutions…

“Maybe it was my fault because I was late with the substitutions. At half-time I would have changed the 11 players.”

Aitor Karanka on the penalty against his team…

“We shouldn’t be asking whether it was or wasn’t a penalty, because I think we should have cleared the ball earlier and played better. There are no excuses.”

Aitor Karanka on where his team lies…

“We just have to keep going. I think there is a good group of lads, but being a good group of lads we have to demand from each other and have everyone on board. Now it is time to recover as soon as possible, recover our consistency and how aggressive we were on the pitch at the start of the season when we were difficult to beat. Now we are not doing anything with or without the ball.”

Aitor Karanka on lifting his players ahead of Bristol City…

“If I were one of them, I can tell them what I would do as a player – go out onto the pitch and give 100%. The best way to forget a performance like today, is to do a perfect performance in the following game. This is about their pride and to show to everybody that we are a good team, when we are together and when we are aggressive.”
