Reaction: Blues 2 Wigan Athletic 3

We know we have the footballers and it's about trying to make sure the injured players get back on the pitch as well and then together fight for every point.

Pep Clotet's coments following his side's narrow loss to the Latics at the St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium.

His overall assessment of the game...
I thought we had a bad performance. We didn’t perform at the level we performed against Leeds on Sunday, when we were very sharp. When we had set-backs in the game (against Leeds) we came back from them and our football was sharper as well. Today the game was tough from the beginning when they (Wigan) went ahead. A lot of things happened their way and went against us. We did very well to equalise, but we couldn't impose ourselves in the way that we wanted to. The second-half for the second goal we could have done better. And straightaway after the second goal we missed a clear chance which sums up a little bit the whole season. It's very difficult for us to score the goals and it's not very difficult for the opposition. So, you have to do everything right at the back to get a yield from our goals. And afterwards the team tries and scores a second and then they score another unfortunate goal in that Jukey (Lukas Jutkiewicz) headed directly on to them and the third goal gave them more calmness and they managed to see the game out until the end.

Asked if it was hard to get that same intensity from his players that they showed against Leeds after just three days’ rest...
It's never easy, but at the end of the day we had a lot of experience on the pitch to manage this kind of game. And of course, it was the same recovery period for Wigan. Now it's about getting the players back mentally and fighting back again.

Asked if he was concerned with Blues winning just one of their last 12 games...
Yes, it's a challenge. It’s a bad run we've been having but we have to put our hands up for it. But there are a lot of things that give me confidence. The Club has been struggling a lot more in the recent past than it is struggling now. It's about keeping cool heads and recovering from that. We know we have the footballers and it's about trying to make sure the injured players get back on the pitch as well and then together fight for every point.

On how confident he was that he could turn things around...
I'm massively confident. We have the experience in the squad of being in bad situations and next week we get the players back for the position we've been struggling (centre-half) for a month and a half almost. And now we're scoring more goals than a couple of months ago, so I am very confident.

On his thinking behind playing Gary Gardner at centre-half...
That has been a position that has been hard for us since the injuries to Robbo (Marc Roberts) and Jake (Clark-Salter). We played there with Geraldo (Bajrami) and Wes (Harding). I thought Gary Gardner could help us. I wanted him and Josh (McEachran) to try and play a little more from the back. He's good in the air and he’s played there in pre-season and it was the last thing that we could try. Jake should be back next week and Robbo the week after.
