Loan Report: December 2021
Our latest loan round-up sees us check in with the Blues players getting minutes away from St. Andrew’s and includes an excellent first senior loan for Oliver Basey.
But we begin at Spotland where Josh Andrews was once again on the scoresheet for Rochdale in December, dispatching in a 2-1 away defeat to Hartlepool United.
The goal, a clever finish into the bottom corner, was Andrews’ fifth in 15 appearances in the North West, in a loan spell that runs until the end of the season.
Mansfield Town enjoyed a solid December, winning all four of their games during the festive month. Ryan Stirk played 90 minutes in each of the wins against Doncaster Rovers, Carlisle United, Salford City and Hartlepool United.
In-fact, the last two months have been good ones for the 21-year-old, who has been a maintay in the Stags’ side after getting over an ankle injury that ruled him out of games in October.
Oliver Basey enjoyed a successful spell with Southern League Premier Division side Hednesford Town during a one-month loan spell throughout December.
Amongst his five appearances for the Pitmen, the 18-year-old featured in draws against Bromsgrove Sporting and Nuneaton Borough and a comprehensive 4-0 home triumph of Leiston at Keys Park.
Jonathan Leko helped Charlton to three wins last month as the Addicks rose up the League One table. The forward started two games and made two substitute appearances in the four matches Charlton contested throughout the month.
Odin Bailey helped Livingston to four points in December, playing in a crucial 1-0 away win over Dundee United and featuring in a 1-1 draw over Ross County. In total, Bailey has made 17 appearances to date for Livi.
Fran Villalba’s Sporting Gijon bounced back from a disappointing November as they lost just once in the final month of the year. In league action, the 23-year-old started in a 2-0 away win over Ibiza and a 1-1 draw with Huesca, whilst also coming on as los Rojoblancos edged Alcorcon in the Copa del Rey.
Sam Cosgrove made three substitute appearances for Shrewsbury Town in December, coming on in games against Carlisle United, Wigan Athletic and Fleetwood Town.
Zach Jeacock was twice part of the Salford City matchday squad in December, travelling as understudy for games against Mansfield Town and Stevenage.
Kane Thompson-Sommers has returned to Blues after the expiration of his loan at Woking. In total, the midfielder made 11 appearances and scored once for the Cardinals during his time in Surrey.
