Adan George signs new Blues contract

Blues can confirm that Adan George has signed a new contract.

The 19-year-old's future was revealed during last month's retained and released list, with terms being agreed on a further 12 months, including a year option.

This comes after a challenging year for the attacker who was sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during pre-season before he underwent surgery in September. An extensive period of rehabilitation followed, keeping him out of action for the entirety of the 2021/22 season.

Prior to this, he had shone in an impressive team performance that saw the Club's Under-23s crowned Professional Development League national champions in May 2021. At Bramall Lane, his first-half brace was enough to defeat a much-fancied Sheffield United side for the silverware.

At the start of that term, George made his First Team debut against Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup. And having played the full 90 minutes at St. Andrew's, he was given more senior game time as a substitute in Blues' 1-0 Sky Bet Championship success over Brentford on the opening weekend.

Further experience was gained during a three-month loan switch to West Midlands counterparts Walsall, working under the management of Darrell Clarke.

Speaking to BluesTV about his new deal with Birmingham City, the frontman spoke of his great gratitude to the Club and outlined his aims for the new season.

"It is a massive thanks to the Club. As I have said before, not all players get this opportunity after a big injury, so it is definitely a big help mentally and opportunity wise to have another year, to try and prove what I can do and make something of my career.

"I feel like I am under the pressure now, but I prefer that. I have got the drive to get through the season. I have got to make up for lost time.

"Even during the off-season now I have still been in. Making sure that my strength is up and making sure I don't get any niggles in other areas.

"For me, it is always about scoring goals and I do that as much as I can, wherever I can. In terms of career progression, it is about getting First Team football."

Congratulations, Adan!
