Report: 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-1 Blues Under-18s

Blues Under-18s beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup on Thursday afternoon.

Brandon Khela’s goal early in the second-half was the difference in a closely-fought encounter, with the result meaning Blues chalked up two wins in the four-team group phase.

However, Martyn Olorenshaw’s team exit owing to their goal difference, with only the seven group winners and one best runner-up progressing from the 28-team group stage.

After the win, the Lead Under-18s coach told he was delighted with another strong cup showing from his team.

The Lead Under-18s Coach said: “I am really pleased that we came away with six points from the three cup games. Particularly though, it was a really good performance against another local side. Given we haven’t played or really trained for two weeks as well, it was very good.

“We completely dominated in the first-half, creating numerous good moments without really fashioning those clear-cut chances. But those came in the second-half and it was a nicely worked goal and finish through Brandon [Khela]. I saw all the things we have been working on with the strike so that was great to see."

Despite another positive cup result, Olorenshaw acknowledged it was a shame to not progress into the next stage of the competition.

He explained: “Admittedly, it is slightly disappointing that the [Manchester] United game caught us out a couple of months ago. It was a bad day at the office but the improvements we have made since then are clear for everyone to see.

“But across the age groups – in both the 17s and 18s, we have handled ourselves well in the cup competitions, so I am pleased with our efforts."
