GEORGE FRIEND

Defender

Biography

George Friend joined Blues in August 2020, the first signing of then Head Coach Aitor Karanka.

He added an additional year onto his existing two-year deal in June 2021, keeping him at St. Andrew's until June 2023.

Highly regarded at both left-back or centre-half, the Barnstaple-born defender began his career with Exeter City, whom he helped into the Football League via a play-off win over Cambridge United in 2008.

Spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers would follow, before he joined Middlesbrough in 2012. Friend racked up an impressive 299 appearances, scoring 10 goals during his time on Teesside.
